Fascinating, but I probably won't recommend December 5, 2009 Stacey (Las Vegas, NV USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts is one of my favorite all-time films. When I was presented with the opportunity to preview "Shadow Government" by Grant R. Jeffrey, my mind began to fill with moments from that movie. The idea of a government entity performing covert operations to spy on ordinary citizens without anyone's knowledge is intriguing and appeals to the part of me that loves a well-orchestrated suspense read.
What I found in this book, however, was not an entertaining work of fiction, but rather a warning from an internationally known prophecy expert. Tying what he believes is evidence that high-tech covert surveillance exists to Biblical prophecy of the end times is what the author has defined as his purpose. Although I don't agree with much of what he writes, I found his book intellectually stimulating and it made me want to dive into the scriptures to research end times prophecy. This book is definitely not a replacement for the Bible, and shouldn't be treated as the final authority on end times prophecy. And, although it was an interesting read, I probably won't recommend it to many since I don't believe that the average Christian can handle this subject matter with the maturity required to avoid panic.
Rather than becoming paranoid about what may or may not be the truth, we should saturate ourselves in God's Word and get to know Jesus so well that we will have His wisdom and discernment to protect us when these times come.

The book arrived quickly, and was in great shape. No marks or coffee spills etc.
I'll be back to buy more books.

Good For Conspiracy, But Leave Out End Times Ideas October 26, 2009 MasterAP (Maryland, USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Shadow Government explains how governments and corporations are using technology to invade your privacy and even setting up a precurser to the Anti-Christ's one-world government.
Grant Jeffrey uses his extensive support database to explain how every e-mail you write & send is viewed by spy agencies and corporations; how your phone conversations are being monitored; how the Obama Administration is moving us toward a cashless society in hopes of creating what many Left Behindites believe to be the One World government/economy/religion of the Anti-Christ.
This is a great conspiracy book. The information on technology used, alone, is worth the read. You'll find yourself worrying about the video surveilance cameras looking in on your house, what you search on Google, and what information you're giving companies via Facebook.
However, his End Times implications will cause many readers to have careless fears.

What Do You Do Now? December 15, 2009 EnRoute To Life (Prescott, AZ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of my early memories is when I was about 4 years old. I was at my grandparents house and opened one of their closets in one of the spare bedrooms. It was a large closet and it was full of canned goods and vitamins. They also had a safe full of silver coins. My grand parents were waiting for the end times. Since that time, I have been aware of things like bar codes (literally I remember the first time I saw a bar code. It was on a pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum and I was 9 or 10 years old. It wigged me out), the mark of the beast, tribulation, and the second coming.
Shadow Government details the various ways that we as US citizens can be tracked. Some of the ways I knew of already. Though there were a few that I didn't know much detail on. I can see the value in a book like this, but I also see that my family has been aware of the end times for most of my life time. I am 42 years old now, and have seen my family go a little overboard on trying to prepare. I do think that these things are pointing to the end times, but that doesn't mean it is tomorrow or even next week. At the same token...it certainly can be. God only knows the answer to this question.
For myself, the last chapter, Preparing for the Last Days was the significant chapter. If you are a Bible believing Christian, you are aware of what is to come. For me it is more important to get yourself right with God and be there for others. Show them His love. I don't believe we should be worrying about a time table. We need to act in love now.
This is a book that was not really for me. It was informative, but as a person who grew up around people who were always waiting. It was a reminder of how you can waste time with those worries. BUT it is also a good book for showing how scripture points to many of the things that are taking place. This might be a good tool for some to share with those they feel would best be served by this information. We all are reached in different ways.
Interesting concepts October 28, 2009 A. Pichea 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The nonfiction book, Shadow Government, is not a book that I would normally have picked up and read. In fact, halfway through the introduction I almost put it down. But, I wanted to be able to give a review of the book as a whole, not just my initial impression of it. And I actually found myself struggling to put it down before I got out of the first chapter! Though I don't necessarily believe everything that is stated as fact in the book, it definitely opened my eyes to a lot of what is going on around me and throughout the world in the ways of technology.
