Vital Information November 3, 2008 Luci (Leesburg, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dr. David Jeremiah is a highly respected author, speaker, and pastor. The information he shares in this very readable & understandable book should open our eyes to "what is really happening" in our world today. I would recommend it to anyone who cares about our country, our world, our future.
Biblical Prophecy and Our Future August 4, 2009 Joseph A. Schweigart (Lake Worth, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dr. David Jeremiah has hit another homerun with his latest book, What in the World is Going On? Needless to say, this is a timely work. Christians seeking a better understanding of world events; past, present, and future had best read this book. I certainly wish I had done so last year when the book first made its debut.
Dr. Jeremiah is meticulous as he walks the reader through ten prophetic clues about end times. In doing so, he brings world conditions into focus through the third and decisive lens of Scripture. As one would expect, he generously cites fulfilled and yet-to-be fulfilled Biblical prophecies, pointing out along the way that the fulfilled variety have a hundred percent accuracy track record. The inference being: with such a record, who can doubt the ones that remain? This all serves to buttress his apologetic of what indeed is going on in our world today.
As a layperson, reading this book certainly helped me acquire a better grasp of the end times' framework and the central role played by the nation of Israel. Suffice it to say that the term "New World Order" will now take on a more meaningful role in my thought process as I absorb the daily occurrences of international events. Many of my questions on such topics as Islam, America, the Church, the Antichrist, Russia, China, and the Rapture are all addressed. Dr. Jeremiah's organized presentation provides clarity to what once may have been prophetic and historical stumbling blocks for the reader.
Dr. Jeremiah's pre-millennialist stance may give some Christians in other camps (amillennialist, post-millennialist, etc.) some heartburn, but not because of a lack of documentation. He has searched the Scriptures well and leaves little room for disagreement. In addition, his endnotes are numerous and helpful.
While it is a smooth read primarily aimed at Christians, the picture for the unbeliever is not a pleasant one. For those who read the book and fall into such a category, Dr. Jeremiah provides the means for a life course correction (page 117 and page 160, for example). Hopefully, they will heed his witness.
The book was published prior to the 2008 presidential election, but Dr. Jeremiah correctly assesses the problem with the electorate (as opposed to the candidate) in one short paragraph on page 157. His objectivity is commendable as he assails the increasing and disturbing superficiality of far too many who now exercise their voting rights. Even here, as one ponders the events, a sign of the end times is evident.
There were only two areas in the book where a correction and a further clarification would have been beneficial, as follows:
* Middle of page 38: ".....when [the twelve Tribes] entered Palestine....." COMMENT: The twelve tribes (Israel) re-entered the Promised Land (Canaan), not Palestine. The name "Palestine" didn't come into being and become part of Middle East history until A.D. 135 when the Romans, after crushing the Jewish revolt led by Simon Bar Kochba, angrily renamed the land of Israel, Provincia Syria-Palestina, after Israel's ancient enemy, the Philistines. From that time forward, all those living there (mostly Jews) were known as "Palestinians." The Arabs at that time had no fixation that "Palestine" was their land. That ambition would not take hold for another 500 years upon the advent of Islam.
* Middle of page 191: ".....during the Tribulation, when Satan is cast out of heaven to the earth....." COMMENT: As a clarification, it would have been helpful to the reader if Dr. Jeremiah had explained that Satan had long ago (circa early Garden of Eden timeframe) been cast out of his heavenly authority as the anointed cherub (Eze 28:14-17), though he still had access to God as "the accuser of our brethren" (Rev. 12:10). He then could have pointed out that access will come to an abrupt end during the Tribulation when he is defeated by the archangel, Michael (Rev. 12:7), upon which he and his angels (demons) will be limited to the earth alone, where he will still desperately try to overthrow God.
Thank you for allowing me to offer up my comments on this important and most informative book.

Biblical Prophecy - 10 Things We Need to Know December 29, 2008 Pam Kumpe (New Boston, Texas) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
What in the world is going on? Now there's a question only God can answer, and fortunately He's given us some great clues in His Word.
By reading Dr. David Jeremiah's book "What in the World is Going On?" I soaked up 10 prophetic clues that enlightened me about happenings in Israel, about the price of oil and offered insight from the books of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Matthew and Revelation.
This book is not one to sit down in one night and read through, but rather I made notes, looked at the references from Scripture, and discussed the concepts with my husband. And I quickly learned I need a better understanding of history in general as well as the Old Testament to grab all this book has to offer.
With the constant reminder from Dr. Jeremiah, to watch, work and wait; I spent weeks relishing this book. It was a great reminder that despite the headlines, or how chaotic life appears; God is dependable and His Word is reliable.
Did you know that from 1901 to 2007, a total of 777 Nobel Prizes and 176 of those were awarded to Jews. That's less than two-thirds of 1 percent of the total population, which means 22.6 percent of all the Nobel Prizes went to Jews. Why do I feel this important?
Look at Genesis 12: 1-3, where God made a binding covenant with Abraham, who was the father of the Jewish nation. Israel is important because the fulfillment of God's covenant with Abraham will affect every one of us.
Then the book takes me through America's quest for oil, to modern Europe, to Islamic Terrorism, to the Rapture of the Church, to seeing if America has a role in prophecy, to the Antichrist, to a new axis of evil, to Armageddon, to the return of Jesus the King.
I will keep this book handy, to re-read the chapters and to soak up more information, statistics and details. There is so much to absorb, one reading is not enough for this type of book. It was hard journey for me, in that I found myself ignorant of what is really going on in the world. It was a great reminder that I should strive to understand more of God's prophetic messages in His Word.
Dr. Jeremiah summed it up nicely when he said, God intends for people to recognize Him as the Lord God of heaven, whose name is holy, whose glory fills the universe, and whom men must recognize as sovereign if they are to find the peace and joy He desires for His people. (See page 185).
I highly recommend this book. Dr. Jeremiah takes the current events and shows how they connect to Bible prophecies. So much information, yet he writes the details in a way even I can understand them. And no, I won't lend this book out, I expect to read it again soon.
You Might Not Get Through This Book... January 9, 2009 Brandon A. Cox (Bentonville, AR USA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
You may not get through this book, and it isn't because it isn't good. It's simply that Jesus might return first. As I read it, I kept thinking the Lord would come before I could turn the next page. Why? Because David Jeremiah has done such an awesome job connecting current world events with biblical prophecy.
He treats prophetically relevant events such as Israel's persecution and becoming a nation, oil and the rise of arab nations who possess it, and modern Europe's resemblance to ancient Rome with such such well researched and compelling language that you can't help but believe Jesus is well on His way.
Jeremiah is careful never to make predictions or to come across as a mere alarmist, but He holds nothing back when pressing the appeal for people to make a definite decision about faith in light of the evidence he presents. I highly recommend you grab this book quickly.
