The Message Must Continued August 12, 2009 K. R. Sowunmi (Houston, Texas United States) I was blessed by this book and by the other book Dream Language, by the author Jim W. Goll. I think it is so prevalent now in the body of Christ that those who horn the gift and frquently dream must strive to understand the gift God has given them in order to properly use it. This book was very knowledgable and I anticipate the author's research deeper and getting downloads from God more on this topic.

I like the book and yet it wasn't quite what I've been looking for. Maybe it's an advance book or not my season. I was looking for beginning signs and how to develop gifts. The authur shares a lot of personal and other people experiences on a higher level. The book did make me think.
Where is the God of Elijah ? October 16, 2005 Halo Faire (Canada) 46 out of 57 found this review helpful
I personally am giving this particular book a 0 star. Why ? Because I believe some of the main premises of the author are lacking in both discernment and are also wrong biblically. My review is not an attack on the man or some kind of personal vendetta but more a questioning of what he teaches. In particular I found Goll's unconditional endorsement of certain "prophetic " ministries in "The Seer" very questionable. For example he states in the start of his book (which I actually read!) that the "role model" for a prophetic ministry/seer was in the ministry of Paul Cain. Yet this man was subsequently found to be involved in a long term alcohol abuse and homosexual lifestyle. I am not "casting another stone " at Cain ,we are all sinners. Rather merely stating that it speaks to Goll's discernment ability. That he so readily and publically promoted a ministry that is found to have later hidden in it, serious strongholds of darkness and deceptive acts. P.Cain actually initially refused to repent of his actions when found out. These are not the characteristics of a person operating in and being led by the Holy Spirit. Surely basic to any understanding of the prophetic is the foundational truth that we should not just accept any teaching or word that comes along. But closely examine or test , that it is, what it claims to be. 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. " Some other reviewers and defenders of Goll's book seem to think that this testing is somehow "sub-Christian". Yet it is a command given by the Bible itself . The testing of 'prophets" then is a necessary part of a true prophetic evaluation, but where was this in the book ? How can an author like Goll claim to have a revelatory gifting or write meaningfully about a prophetic (discerning) ministry when he failed to discern or see the true nature of the person he worked and ministered along side for so long? Those especially who wish to speak with a 'prophetic ' voice should have a degree of insight.
Secondly as I understand it, we are not to evaluate the level, anointing or ability of a "seer/prophet" just by their outward ministry as Goll seems to do in the book. Rather the biblical criteria for discernment is their producing the inward fruits of the spirit (Mat 7:15-16 ) "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. {16} "You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? " The point is in looking at Goll's "role model" of a Seer there isn't much goodness, faithfulness or self-control exhibited. In fact the opposite has now been seen . A true prophetic calling has Holiness at its foundation, ("Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Gal 5). But little of this perquisite is mentioned in the pages . Anyone can say that they have a message from God, but we are commanded not to look at necessarily what they speak, but their lifestyle and actions. This certainly wasn't emphasized in the book
It is a temptation and easier to merely look at the surface of a prophetic ministry in deciding if it is coming from God. The author of this book I feel has sadly done this and been taken in . "The Seer", instead of following the more difficult and biblical command to examine and test the dreams , visions and open heavens, merely gives techniques of the prophetic and various "ministry stories' One must bring a balanced 'whole' view of the bible if you say you are teaching from a Christian perspective . And surely on a book on the prophetic the writer must have demonstrated an ability to discernment.
I take no pleasure in expressing a negative review of Goll's teaching, but I sincerely believe that a more truthful and a proper biblical approach is needed in the prophetic, if we are to see a real restoration of its office to the church.
