You Will Not Find A Better Contemporary Translation December 6, 2001 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
Okay, so you've had it with those other translations. Perhaps the idea of reading the Bible through has made you throw your hands up in defeat. Perhaps you've read it through and would simply like to draw it into yourself more deeply. Or perhaps, like me, the Bible has been a constant (yet fractured and fragmented) companion that you'd like to get to know better.Quite frankly, I'm usually too tired to give the Bible the intellectual energy that most translations demand. The easier translations have no bite. But this one does. Point blank, read it. You will not regret it. It will open your eyes, thrill you, touch you, convict you, and comfort you. I particularly recommend this to those who thought they would never read the Bible and to those who think they know it. You won't regret it.
Easy to read November 4, 2006 Margaret O. Kanter (Tampa, FL, USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Makes reading and understanding the Bible easier. Great to read in conjunction with a more traditional translation.
Finally a bible I can Read January 11, 2007 Betty Boop Gal (California) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I will make this short and sweet. This Bible is very easy to read, it actually reads like a book. I read a few pages almost everynight. I am really enjoying reading the bible now that I understand it and at this rate I should read the whole Bible in a shorter amount of time then I ever expected. This is the best Bible I have ever owned.
melts like butter August 10, 2007 Desert Dwellers (USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
In this review I am not addressing the issue of the translation itself, simply the asthetics of this particular edition. Navpress has done a fine job of packaging The Message in a beautiful, pliable leather binding that melts like butter in your hands. It is an example of how Bibles should feel when you hold them, --it nealy invites you to pick it up and read it! It is attractive, the black leather is embossed with silver and the Bible has silver on the edges of the pages. It has one black ribbon and is nicely laid out with a single column, left-justified text with generous space for copious notes. The verses are still not to my satisfaction, they could be slightly darker and the font is a tad too small, but it is printed on an off-white paper that is easy on the eyes.
The paper is thin, reminding me of the days when "India" paper was used in Bibles. It is a great Bible for guys or gals and something that beckons to be picked up and read, --something a Bible should do!
Beautiful binding July 5, 2006 D. D. DuPre (Lexington, SC) 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
This Bible is beautiful. The two tone leather and the embossing give it a masculine feel. I added a brass nameplate and would recommend this version to anyone wanting a more simple translation.
