The Bible you can understand December 23, 2007 Kathryn Adams (Middletown, CT United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This translation of the Bible has been incredibly useful to me. I bought it to read Job after hearing a wonderful sermon one Sunday. Now I bring it with me to church every time I go. The Message is an up-to-date version of the Bible, written to help the reader understand the many message given by Scripture. I have found it helpful in understanding sermons, in helping with my own Bible study, and in regular prayer. I highly recommend it!
Easy to read bible December 28, 2007 Angela Holtz (Michigan) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this bible. My priest recommended it to me and I don't regret it for a second. It's easy to read and understand and there are passages that I never got in a KJV bible that all the sudden click with this one. Only problem is that while they are numbered, it's by paragraph and sometimes you may need another bible to get a tidbit correct.
The most beautiful, inspirational book EVER written. August 12, 2008 Royce E. Barber (Fresno, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Message, especially The Message Remix 2.0, is incredible. It's simply the Bible in modern language. BUT there is so much more to this. It's poetic, it's well explained, and it's written in such a way that the context of the pages are easily comprehendable. Each book starts out with Eugene Peterson explaining the whole book, to put it in perfect context. So when you read the book, it makes complete sense! The Bible finally makes sense!!! Each chapter has this heading sentence that explains the main point of the chapter. There are these neat little maps and such, but I can't explain enough the importance of how well written it is. It's to the point, and it explains exactly what the Bible means rather than what the Bible says. That said, you should supplement this "Study Paraphrase Bible" with the NIV, and other translations. You will cherish this wonderful hardbound book. It's truly changed my life and got me and my friends to connect with Jesus Christ on a whole new level. i like to sit down and underline parts that are especially meaningful to me, and then I type those things onto my "men's ministry" website www.roycebarber.com so I really would like to thank Eugene H. Peterson for being a light to help guide my way through this world. God Bless you all. The message can be found for free on BibleGateway.Com but its not the latest one. Thats ok though. Either version is highly articulate.
Love the Message April 20, 2009 valj 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The message is beautiful to read. I recommend this for people who might want a passage or verse in more simple, current language. I have given this to my son & daughter and 2 of their friends after they mentioned that they found some translations difficult to understand. This is great for those who like to compare different passages. A great companion version for study.
Awesome!!!! September 7, 2004 Ry&Rin 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have to put in my two cents. I'm still new in my Christian journey and reading so many different bibles I wanted to read the bible and understand it. I love the KJV, NIV, CEV, etc but the Message is awesome!
God uses this man to really speak to his people. In the cover of the book he says that you should read other versions of the bible. Research, meditate and and allow the Spirit to minister to you. If you are looking for a translation of familiar bible verses this is not it. Peterson went back to the original manuscripts of the Bible. (It's in the front cover.) He sought to translate not the KJV but the original text. Using the language that the people used. "street language."
One of my favorite passages is Psalm 23:
A David psalm
1GOD, my shepherd! I don't need a thing.
2You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.
3True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.
4Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I'm not afraid
when you walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd's crook
makes me feel secure.
5You serve me a six-course dinner
right in front of my enemies.
You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.
6Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life.
I'm back home in the house of GOD
for the rest of my life.
The language and the meaning is upfront and simple.
I highly recommend this Bible for anyone and to be used not only everday but with other Bibles and studies. God will really speak to you if you open your mind and heart and you let the Spirit minister and not others.
