5 out of 5 stars Thank you, Lord, for The Message   October 17, 2003

For 35 years, as a Christian, I have soaked in, and absorbed The Word of God from King James to New American, so, I guess one could say I have a loving knowledge of "The Bible". This said, I recommend to anyone, the content of The Message. Personally, I don't care if this be the only translation that anyone ever picks up. If the Spirit of God uses it to convey one bit of Truth to your soul and spirit, then, hallelujah! Receive it and keep going. God has used it so often in my personal quiet time, to clarify and shed new Light on the Truth of a long-loved passage, that I can only express joy that it has come to us in these days that can otherwise look so dark. Read The Message. In my opinion, it's The Word.

5 out of 5 stars WOW, wonderful Bible as gifts   November 26, 2006

I really enjoy this Bible. I have given several as a gift as wedding gifts, confirmation gifts and Adult Baptism gifts. This translation is easy to read. Having the Scripture chapter and verses in the margins makes it easy to follow to read in a big group or privately for a Bible Study. The Remix 2.0 has wonderful additional information that only adds to the Bible Study.

5 out of 5 stars good for reading   December 11, 2004

I highly recommend this version to encourage daily Bible reading, but wouldn't use it as my only Bible. Use it as a supplement to another, more 'literal' translation for broader, deeper insight.

For Bible studies and following along when someone is teaching, I usually use my NIV (because I put years worth of notes in the margins before realizing that it has a couple of serious flaws in translation) or the Amplified Bible (excellent and interesting!).

Before I fell so in love with Jesus that I now crave reading the Bible, I mostly only read it when I felt obligated. I had received Christ into my life, but got most of my Bible teaching verbally and through media about the Bible. I just couldn't get interested in the text enough to sit still and keep reading it for myself.

I did eventually read the Bible enough to become fascinated with it. But I wish I'd had The Message version when I was younger, since seeing it help several other people who are like I was--intimidated and antsy about reading the Bible for myself.

It makes a great gift (supplementing a more "literal" version). And for me, when I'm not in "study" mode and I'm just reading for Biblical encouragement, I find The Message a refreshing, encouraging choice.

5 out of 5 stars the Remix   February 17, 2004

To put it simply, the Remix edition of The Message flat out ROCKS! The addition of chapter and verse numbers as well as subject headings makes this edition a wonderful tool when you want to study and cross reference between translations. I am not going to go into the great spiritual debate of our time as to whether Eugene Peterson's paraphrase of scripture is on par with the NIV or King James translations of the Bible. I will say that I own both an NIV(New International Version) and an NASB(New American Standard Bible) and yet at times neither one has been able to illuminate Christ's words like Peterson's work.

What a help. Thank you Eugene Peterson! I have always enjoyed The Message very much, but found it difficult to find the actual verses represented based on my much beloved NIV. Now, with this edition you can find the passages you are looking for! This just came today and I am so happy with it, that I am looking for a leather bound edition & will pass this one on to a grandchild. By the way, I am 60+ yrs. and a grandmother of 9, been in Bible Study for years & still appreciate this fresh, illuminating version of the Wonderful Words of Life.
