More than a self-help book...God's Word for your recovery. February 16, 2010 PastoralMusings (Dixie) The Life Recovery Bible is indeed a very interesting Bible. It is not your normal study Bible. This is a Bible that is set up to help folks who are struggling against addictions and bad habits. The Bible text is the New Living Translation and is saturated with notes and articles.
The Life Recovery Bible is set up with notes on Scriptures just as any other study Bible is. What makes it unique is the fact that the notes are specifically slanted (for lack of a better word) toward helping a person fight against that thing that has enslaved him.
Interspersed throughout the Biblical texts are larger notes that deal with people and incidents that direct the reader to think about how a person falls and how a person recovers.
One cannot discount the good topical index that The Life Recovery Bible has, too. It is a one stop listing of the notes and will direct a person with one particular topic on his mind to the right place.
The impressive thing about The Life Recovery Bible is the fact that it is not simply a self help book. It has a strong connection to the twelve step program, but is more than that. The Life Recovery Bible is an aid for one who may be going through a twelve step recovery program. It shows how a person sins, fails, fall, and rises again. It directs the reader to acknowledge his sinfulness and his need for God's help.
I anticipate using this in ministerial counseling from time to time. I honestly think that this will be a good help for many people.

We ALL Need Recovery! February 19, 2010 Cherie Hill Most of us have heard of the "Recovery Bible," but few have taken a look inside of it. I was incredibly surprised as I began to work through the pages and realized, "We're ALL in Recovery!!!" This is not a Bible just for the alcoholic or drug addict; this is a Bible designed for anyone who has sinned. So that means ALL of us. The Recovery Bible has now become my "main" study Bible. Why? Each Book of the Bible begins with a detailed "Big Picture," that presents an overview of each Book. This isn't your typical "intro" to a book of the Bible. It provides the groundwork for the reasons God has given us each particular Book of the Bible. Then there's the "Bottom Line," where you are given the overall purpose and lesson for the book. Even more informative were the detailed writings on the "characters" that played part in the Bible. Throughout each Book you are given insight as to what the characters struggled with, their weaknesses and strengths, how they came into fellowship with God, and how they came to be used by God for greater purposes. I was enthralled by the "footnotes" on each page that held priceless knowledge and insight into so many of the Scriptures.
The "Life Recovery Bible" truly "speaks." You can't help but read through one page and hear God's voice. The writers of this Bible have truly been used by God to reach a hurting world that is desperate for Him. I only wish that I had received this Bible from someone when I was starting out in my Christian walk. It is the best gift you can give to a Prodigal or someone desiring to deepen their faith. I HIGHLY recommend this Bible!

Brilliant and Wonderful Tool February 19, 2010 Tracy Keck (Sunny, AZ) Brilliant! Many of us either have battled issues like addiction, depression, co-dependency, and dysfunction ourselves, or know someone who has. The Life Recovery Bible is a New Living Translation Bible specifically focusing on these types of struggles and more. It offers many features that speak to the struggles faced by people in recovery, including, special devotionals, notes, themes and profiles. What really impressed me though, was that it really speaks to everyone, whether they are "in recovery" or not (we all need help and healing somehow). In addition to being a great personal Bible, it would be an awesome tool for ministry and outreach. I highly recommend The Life Recovery Bible.

Good translation, good commentaries. February 28, 2010 J. R. Lowell (Lakeport, CA) This is a great Bible for a 12-step program, and I really like the NLT.
