5 out of 5 stars Sunday School Teacher Review   September 30, 2005

I recently decided to teach a young adult class at my church. I wanted a good study bible. This bible is excellent. The NIV version is so down to earth. When you can explain things so old and new Christians alike can understand, what a blessing everyone receives. The dictionary in the back is awesome. The charts in the chapters and the description at the beginning of every book of the bible is so detailed. I find it hard to put down when I am studying and I have grown just reading this bible. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants an excellent study bible.

5 out of 5 stars Speaks Directly To Your Heart   July 2, 2002

First off I read some of the other reviews and all were positive but one and if you will read that ONE person's profile, he is negative toward most of the books he reads... Most of the reviews feel the same way I do and that is this is one of the most "reader friendly" Bibles I have ever read. I have read many translations and this one is so Powerful... Dealing with today issues and how to apply the Bible to those issues in our life today. This Bible is written at an 8th grade level,so is very easy to read. LIFE APPLICATION is just what it says.. To apply what we are reading to our lifes.. It begins by knowing and understanding God's Word and it's timeless truths. But you cannot stop there. If you do, God's Word may not change your life, and it may become dull, difficult, tedious, and tiring. A good application focuses the truth of God's Word, shows the reader what to do about what is being read, and motivates the reader to respond to what God is teaching. All three are essential to application. And then finally "Application" is putting into practice what we already know..... I bought this translation of the Bible for my son's 25th birthday and after getting it home and reading it, I want one for myself... A Very Beautifully Written Translation...

5 out of 5 stars Great Study Bible, Easy to understand Footnotes!   June 17, 2004

This is the best Bible I have owed. We were recommended this Bible from my Falther-in-law. He is a retired Pastor and uses it as part of his research. The Footnotes make reading the Bible enjoyable and easy to understand. I would recommend it to anyone! Our daughter (14 years old) asked for one of her own! We have also bought several others and have been giving them to people in our Church.

5 out of 5 stars This Bible version really speaks to YOU   July 23, 1998

I read it everyday and it is a daily blessing. I may have read a certain passage 5 times before, but it does not register or it's wisdom does not present itself until something happens in my life and I am reading along and I come across the answer right under my nose, I don't know how I could have missed it before, but I did, even though it has been there all along. Like IT was waiting for ME. It is at moments like that I am struck with AWE and I realize something really BIG is going on here. I have read 3 other versions of the Bible and this is by far the best.

5 out of 5 stars Sounds strange to write a review on the Bible, but...   April 28, 2002

Yes, it seems strange to write a review on the Bible, but... here it goes...

It's been said that many people don't understand the Bible because they don't read it. And, they don't read it because, let's be honest, there's much in it that's difficult to understand (so you get into a bit of a cycle here-- it's hard, so you don't read, so you don't understand, so it's hard, so you...).

That's where this book enters the scene... And, here's how it's helped me (this was the first copy of the Bible I bought AND actually read-- I'm still working on the understanding it part-- and the "living it out" part even more).

First, the NIV text is very readable (moreso than King James and even some of the other modern translations). It reads a lot like you might talk. You can understand what it's saying, then, without weeding through the "thee's" and "shalts" and "bidsts" etc... In my opinion, a more readable translation makes it more enjoyable to read, makes it more likely that you will read... and insures that you comprehend more as you do read.

Second, the Life Application Bible provide great information in the margines (including notes for just about every verse, personal profiles of many people in the bible, and small write-ups on other relevant topics and events). You can read biographies about people you are meeting in the stories, view the maps to see where they are where they've been, and make quick personal applications. That, in effect, is what this Bible is about-- both reading and comprehending the Word of God so that you can live it out (the hard part).

If you buy this Bible (any Life Application would be like this, as well, it would just be a different translation) you will, in all seriousness, have a commentary, small Bible dictionary, and a few maps and biographies with you.

If you're searching for a study Bible, or a first "adult" Bible... go ahead and get this one. If you already have an NIV version, get the Life Application version of the NASB, or NKJV...
