Impressive! January 25, 2008 Karlton Douglas (Ohio USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the most impressive audio Bible I've listened to. It is not just a Bible reading, but a Bible play, a lively narration with sound effects and a wonderful music score. You can tell by listening that this was not just 'thrown together' but lovingly pieced together. From watching the accompanying 'making of' DVD you see that the actors, an all star cast, took seriously their roles. Jim Caviezel in particular poured his heart into the role of Jesus, and acknowledges on the DVD that he drew from his experience of playing the part of Christ in the "Passion" movie. Not enough good things can be said about his excellent readings. The sound effects and music score highlight the reading, rather than distract from it--which is what you would hope for. The text itself is from the New King James Version Bible, which is a word-for-word translation that brings across the power and beauty and strength of the original manuscripts.
This is a great gift for those who say they don't have time to read the Bible, for they can listen to it on the way to work, and perhaps even while they work. Also a good gift for those who seem uninterested in reading the Bible for themselves. This dramatization is powerful and captivating, holding the listener's interest. For those who are regular Bible readers, this audio Bible can bring God's word alive in a fresh, new way. I can't think of a single thing I dislike about this audio Bible, I would highly recommend it.
The Bible in dramatic theatre December 7, 2007 B. Lindsay 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I enjoy having all the characters be different voices. When I first put the CD in my car, all my kids (who love audio dramatic theater like Odyssey) were quiet for the entire 20 minute drive and were very attentive to the story. We're still in the gospels, which have much more action. I can't vouch for the entire NT yet, but so far, we like what we hear!
Priceless... October 13, 2007 Shawn G. (Albuquerque, NM USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This dramatic audio experience is brilliant. Not to belittle the oral skills of preachers anywhere, but professional actors bring a realism and a sense of immediacy to the words of the New Testament that is rarely achieved in a church service. Every aspect of this production is extremely well done and will not disappoint.
If you aren't careful, you will likely have moments while listening that you slip into a sense of actually hearing Jesus speak to you. For those of us who believe in Him and call Him our Lord, this can inspire and quicken the spirit quite unlike any other experience. I highly recommend this audio experience to those seeking a fresh experience of the scriptures.
Note that the New Testament Audio Bible has a different soundtrack than the Word of Promise from Jesus gift book and CD. That smaller package has a soundtrack that is solely piano, whereas the New Testament Audio Bible has a full symphonic score. In my opinion, the full symphonic score is superior in setting the stage for the actors voices.
Fantastic!!!! November 14, 2007 Melanie Pennock (Nashville, TN USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
"The Word of Promise" is the best, most beautiful version of audio bible that I have ever heard. The music is very stirring. Jim Caviezel's Jesus is so realistic and so full of emotion that a person feels like they are part of the story. His voice is definitely not dry or emotionless, but full of life and passion. Mr. Caviezel really knows how to touch the heart with his beautiful performance. The other actors in this series are flawless as well. The New King James Version is an updated, more understandable of the original 1611 King James text, while the Today's New International Version is a totally different translation altogether, and most people are more drawn to The New King James, even though it is a modernized version of an old text. It is a shame that there can't be more than 5 stars for the rating, because I would give 10 of them! The Word of Promise is the best, and the best value as well.
Mr. Caviezel is outstanding in reading the words of Jesus November 14, 2007 Carolyn P. Ellis (Nashville, Tn. USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Jim Caviezel brings his soft, emotion-filled voice to the age-old words of Jesus and draws you into the heart of the message. He has the ability to go softly into the script, or use teeth-gritting emphasis where need be. This set certainly will be a collector's item. My blessings to Mr. Caviezel and his entire team for putting this project together.
