5 out of 5 stars Love it!   January 20, 2009

Ok, folks, here is my review of The Chronological Study Bible from Thomas Nelson, Inc. I have to say that I absolutely love this Bible. It is an appropriate tool for anyone new to reading the Word as well as those who have been reading it for years. It certainly would have been a nice addition in my Old & New Testament Survey classes in bible school. The elements that make this book unique are clearly explained up front, and are arranged within the text in a way that enhances my study time.

The maps, illustrations, nuggets of history, etc. give a reasonable perspective of bible times. A quick look at what else was going on in the world makes it interesting. Psalms take on new meaning as they are placed within the context of David's life and the people of Israel. The books of the prophets are interspersed thoughtfully within the history of Israel. The birth of my Savior is aligned with like chapters. The epistles of Paul are spread along his journeys in Acts.

This Bible is also an answer to prayer. I have prayed for my reading of the Word to stay fresh, and to be opened up to me in a new way. I look forward to reading it more and more.

This book is a wonderful helpful tool in understanding the sequence of events of the Bible. Also, this book also includes interesting information about the culture, events, derivative of words, maps, etc. It is not intended to replace your Bible but is certainly helpful in understanding the Word of God.

5 out of 5 stars The Chronological Study Bible   January 29, 2009

The Thomas Nelson Chorological Study Bible is a great resource for the serious Bible student and new believers looking for a historical context of the scripture. The combination of the historical layout and the study notes sets this Bible head and shoulders over its rival, Reese's Chronological Bible. This book has quickly become my favorite resource for historical background of the Bible.

The study notations of this Bible are phenomenal. There are pages and pages of information on the major time divisions of the bible. I also enjoy the way it is broken down into Epochs. They give a clear snapshot of Biblical times and other insightful information about science, technology, trade, economics and more. Significant events are shown in outline form and maps give a sense of the scale of these events.

The Bible is beautifully printed in color and hard cover bound, making it sturdy and easy to read. The study notes are colored-coded, so finding the background information of a passage is effortless. Even with all the wonderful features in this Bible, it is not overwhelming, as some recourses can be. The information and its placement on the page are logically and well-thought out.

I wish I had this book when I was completing my Master's Degree in Theology.
