Outstanding and Pretty too November 13, 2008 Terra Hangen (West coast, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have found a book that is a great blessing to me, and I want to shout about it.
The concept of publishing all the books of the Bible in the order that the events occurred is deeply meaningful to all of us who read the Bible. In addition to this useful order, there is another bonus with this book: the beauty of the book itself. There is so much color in it, with maps, photos, charts, and insets with pertinent facts that it is a treasure for me.
In the back is a Scripture index, so I could quickly find out what page my favorite Scripture is on (Psalm 91).
This book combines all the best in a book: physical beauty and knowledge.
When I open it up, I am cajoled to start reading, learning, thinking and praying.
I reviewed about 50 books this year, and this is the most outstanding one.
Thank you Thomas Nelson Publishing for this treasure, which is already a blessing for me, and will be for thousands more readers.
Very Cool Study Bible December 7, 2008 RebelReader (U.S.A) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Chronological Study Bible: New King James Version
This is a very Cool Bible, with lots of commentaries & notes on just about every page. I've found this Bible very useful even though I've only had it a few days. The commentary & notes are of a historical nature, which makes this Bible nice for people of different denominations. My husband gave me the hardcover edition , it looks & feels well made. Inside of the Bible looks very cool, I love the designs. The paper is not the thin paper you find in most Bibles, but it's still thin compared to your average book.
What inside?
*Timelines
*Background and historical information (This is very helpful)
*Maps (Both in the Bible its self & the traditional maps at the back)
*Archeological Information
*Beliefs & customs of the time period (This also includes the Pagan/Babylonian/ Non-Israelite Beliefs & customs of the time period. Some people find this offensive but I find it very helpful in understanding what life was like in that time period)
*Artwork & Photos (very Cool)
*Science & Technology (Very Cool)
*Footnotes
In the back of this Bible there's a topical index, a glossary, a concordance, and an index of Scripture passages and blank pages for notes. The index is very helpful to locate passages since this Bible is arranged in chronological order instead of canonical order. The index is arranged the same as your regular Bible.
New King James Version is a very nice translation & is one of my favorites. Its easy both to read & memorize.
I think this Bible would be a great Study Bible for people of any denomination. I'm Catholic & find it very useful, though I wish they made a Catholic Chronological Study Bible.
A Valuable Study Tool January 10, 2009 Todd Michael Greene (NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For several years I've used a chronological reading guide to read through the Scriptures in a one year. Since first hearing about this volume, my excitement has built.
One word of caution, The Chronological Study Bible is not for church use. There's much more than rearrangement the order of the canonical books. The entire Biblical text is arranged by 'epochs' or seasons. Nine in all. Each of these has an intermingling of the Bible record listing the events in the order it's believed they happened. So one could be reading in 1 Chronicles, transition to 2 Kings, then 1 Kings, then to one of the prophets, then back to 1 Chronicles.
This is a study method for going beyond the surface of the text and understand context, original meaning, life in the time period and much more. Notes abound on a number of subjects, timelines, maps, photos.
Some'll disagree with the placement of this passage or that book. There are questions pertaining to chronology. An honest view is given of how things may have transpired and details why, plus speak to the other possibilities. This really is the best anyone can do in such cases.
A Great Way To Study The Bible April 22, 2009 Jason Bradford (Charleston, SC) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Each section of this study Bible is comprehensive on the specific time period covering details of the time period, the people & groups and the culture of that time. This helps is setting the "scene" of what you begin reading. On many pages there are some key notes and features that take you deeper into that day and age.
I have found it to be very helpful in learning and studying but more importantly to keep me interested with details not found in other texts. Highly recommend this study Bible if you are looking to do more than just "read" the Bible... this will take you into the time period and help you relate/understand the stories in a way that most miss in general reading.
This Item is Helpful in Bible Studies January 6, 2009 Mary A. Mcadory (Philadelphia, Ms.)
My Sunday School Teacher had a Bible like this and when she shared some things from this Bible, I knew that I wanted to own one. I went home and found it on Ebay. It is very Helpful in my Bible readings, especially as far as Timeline.
I am enjoying it and find it so informative.
