5 out of 5 stars Excellent Bible   September 8, 2004

I have not read this entire version yet, but so far I can only rate it excellent. The commentary and introductory essays are very good, and it's set up to help new Bible readers. I don't hesitate to recommend it to both Protestants and Catholics.

5 out of 5 stars A great paraphrase bible   September 29, 2007

The Good News Translation is for all intensive purposes a paraphrase (thought for thought as opposed to a word for word translation, and Zondervan publishing even calls it such on their web site). I originally picked this book up for my nephew to help him understand the bible. It is in plain english, and I feel it at least helped give him an accurate tool for understanding the bible. I have grown to regard the GNT as the best paraphrase on the market (in my humble opinion). This truly is a translation that can bring the saving message of the gospel to our next generation. I don't use this bible for personal study, but it's great for just sitting down and reading the bible as you would a good novel. Great for children and adults alike. An A+ indeed.

5 out of 5 stars easy-to-navigate bible for your Kindle   August 3, 2009

Critique on the translation aside, this Bible is a great addition to the Kindle. The navigation is easy to use and it's nice being able to do a text search on-the-go. The critique I read that raised my eyebrows the most was the one saying that once you look up a passage there is no way to know what book/chapter you are in. That is true to a certain extent, but easily worked around. If you search for a particular verse (assuming you know the wording the NIV uses), it will bring up the page containing your search. Unfortunately, it won't tell you what book you're in. But, if you click on any of the verse numbers on the page, it will take you to the chapter summary which tells you the book you're in, the chapter you're in, and a list of all verses contained in that chapter. Want to go back to the verse you were looking at? Just hit the 'back' button on your Kindle and you're all set. Couldn't be easier.

5 out of 5 stars Good Place to Start   September 19, 2004

When I was first looking for a Bible, I found SEVERAL! They come in different sizes, colors, with different features, not to mention (NIV, NKJV, NCV, etc.)

I was looking for a new Bible since my old one was an NCV (New Children's Version).

I like how the NIV is presented because how the text is written is less confusing. Compare a couple of passages from a King James Version Bible and an NIV, and you'll see what I mean.

However, some church's use different Bibles. The church I go to uses the NIV for Scripture, so I can follow along words for words. You may want to check with your church to see what Bible they are using.

Also, you may want to check them out and see which one you like best. I like the NIV because it is easier for me to understand. My sister prefers her NKJV.

If you aren't sure in the beginning, but want a Bible, get an inexpensive one. You can usually find them for $5 or less. If you decide that you want a different version or your church uses a different version, you didn't spend $30 on a Bible.

Have a great day!

5 out of 5 stars Very Easy Navigation   December 21, 2009

I was very pleased to find that it was easy to navigate Books, Chapters and Verses. The description did not mention that you could navigate. I bought it anyway because I wanted the NIV version. Very, very pleased.
