| Customer Reviews: best book for an essay beginner..... May 1, 2009 LARA (Sydney Australia) Just started writing and this book is what I have been looking for through every other book. It has every basic skill needed for improving in basic writing or even more advanced...
Freshman English October 21, 2008 Cathy (Pasadena, CA) I purchased this textbook for my freshman son entering high school. I had to order in a hurry and it arrived timely, which I was very much appreciated.
Great Idea, but not complete August 12, 2005 M. Flowers (Mooresville, NC) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Vocabulary Power Plus is a great idea, but the book is not complete. There's no answer key for those ambiguous SAT skills passages! How do you know if your answer is correct? I like the connection to the SAT, but it would be nice to have more basic practice with the new word: sentence completion, true-false,and matching.
Where is the freaking answer section? July 1, 2007 Blues Rock Fan (Berkeley, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Practice books for summer study are great, but without an answer guide, this well constructed book has dubious value. Several exercises provoked disagreement between three college educated teachers who reviewed the book with me as to the best possible answer. There not even a web citation of where teachers can procure answers.
I am disgusted! September 27, 2009 D. Tecklenburg (Amity PA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a professional writer with 20 years experience, national writing credits and 2 published books. I attempted to help my daughter with her homework and was amazed that this book presented questions that were subjective instead of objective and in some cases, I felt the "right" answers were just plain wrong. I am now actively campaigning to get the school district to drop this series.
