no issues with audio July 25, 2008 Picky Consumer 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Entire old and new testament, ready to be copied to your mp3 player. Great audio and narration, very clear and consistent quality throughout. Unlike the other reviewer here, I found no issues with audio on any of the cds; audio is as perfect as I could have hoped. Sounds great on portable players or piped thru the home stereo.
I should add my interest is purely academic, and Scourby's narration serves that purpose well; he is dramatic enough to not be monotone, but not so over the top that you feel preached at.
Great Buy! November 14, 2008 Paladin (Texas, USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Mine just came in the mail yesterday. There are 6 mp3 cds in paper sleeves in a small box. The cds played fine on my truck's stereo which can read mp3 cds.
Another reviewer commented on the audio quality. I found the quality good, especially better than some mp3s I had downloaded years ago. Sometimes there is a little change in volume going from chapter to chapter, but it is hardly noticable. Is not cd quality by any stretch. The mp3 files are encoded at 80 kbps, which is plenty for this type of narration. I think you have to bear in mind that Scourby recorded these tracks decades ago.
For the price, it is hard to beat. You have the entire KJV Bible (that's over 70 hours of audio) ready to put on your mp3 player, listen to on your computer, or play in a mp3 capable car stereo. This is a bargain compared to the audio cd edition which has 60 cds.
The best recording to date April 1, 2009 Marcus (Austin, TX USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I agree that the very best reading of the Bible is this one done by Alexander Scourby. For one thing he is the only one who reads the King James Bible naturally, as though its English were timeless. His reading is utterly transparent--when I listen to him I hear the Bible, not an excellent reading of the Bible. He is an ideal narrator.
That said, this recording was made some 50 years ago and sound recording has advanced considerably in the intervening years. I have several different sets of CD's of this recording as well as AMG's MP3 set. This is far and away the best recording to date. Yes, there is variation in terms of sound levels, etc. book to book and track to track, but not unacceptable at all. The NT is superior to the OT on all my recordings, but this one is much better in the OT. Some books on my CD sets sound like they were recorded in a submarine--but not this one! If you've hoped for a good recording of Scourby's reading of the KJB, this is certainly the best to date.
Best Audio Version, for sure September 6, 2009 Taylor Lynde 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, since hearing the word of God builds up faith in Christians, you might as well get the very best in a whole reading of the Scriptures. There have been some amazing readings produced and recorded of the bible by James Earl Jones, Johnny Cash, Lawrence Olivier, Gregory Peck, Stephen Johnston, etc. but this is the best in my opinion. Scourby reads so well in fact, that the King James English comes across as quickly understandable and dynamic- I mean it just flows! A good actor can make the complex scripts of Shakespere come alive to a kindergatner, so if you have difficulty with the King James, this Alexander Scourby version will refresh and amaze you.
This easy and quality 6-Disk MP3 pack quickly loads up on your computer and then, Presto!- Every morning you can grab your cup of Joe and hear the best Bible reading done to date!

Great! September 4, 2009 Linda J. Frazier (Dickson, TN USA) My husband and I are enjoying the CDs of the Bible. It is a complete Bible, Old and New, and in a very nice carrying case. Mr. Scourby does a great job with reading the Bible.
