Wonderful way to introduce you to the Bible, believer or not May 19, 2006 chicitysue (Chicago) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Since "The Daily Bible" is in chronological order the sections read like stories. The NIV is a very widely used, respected and readable version of the Bible. This Bible is not a STUDY Bible, but a Bible to READ. If you have any questions, answers are easily available elsewhere. I highly recommend this version for its readability and flow of the stories.
"The Daily Bible" is fun to read, whether as an excellent choice for the first time, or to follow up after you have read all or parts of the Bible and would like to experience it chronologically. "The Daily Bible" is especially useful if you want to read the Bible as it progresses, each part in time and context. I also recommend the Bible for readers whose main interest is in literature.
The layout is a great help for readability as the chapters and verses are indicated in the margin not within the text. In this way the reader just keeps reading with no distractions. There are a few explanatory footnotes when necessary. Each section has a short, useful introduction.
The purpose of this Bible is to encourage the reader to read chronological episodes of a people and individuals among those people. Using the chronological approach keeps stories together. In this way you are also more likely to remember what you have read.
One of the greatest examples of the enjoyability of "The Daily Bible" is the story of David from his lowly beginnings to persecuted to King to his death. "The Daily Bible" includes the Psalms of David that apply to each episode.
The compact version (6.1 x 4.2 x 1.3 inches) is VERY portable, though its print is quite small.
The Daily Bible March 17, 2006 Brenda S. Nyboer (Anderson, Indiana) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was so impressed with the way this bible is laid out, and how easy it is to read. This bible explains to you what you are going to read, and then gives you the scriptures. You only have about 5 pages a day to read to go through the entire bible in a year. It is also laid out as the events happens which makes following the "story" much easier. I was so impress that I purchased one for my son, daughter-in-law, sister, niece and grandmother as gifts.

I have a number of bibles in different translations. They are all useful. This bible is different. It is in chronological orer, uses the NIV translation, has useful commentaries throughout and helps organize your study. I have been reading it and using it since November 2005 on a daily basis. It is a very good tool for someone who wants to study the Word in a serious manner. I highly recommend it.
You CAN Read the Bible From Cover to Cover -- Use this book July 25, 2006 W. Terry Whalin (Scottsdale, Arizona) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It looks like an impossible task to many people so they've given up trying. Here's a way to try again with THE DAILY BIBLE. F. LAGARD SMITH has taken the entire Scriptures and arranged them into 365 chronological readings with some brief devotional commentary.
You can start this book in January--or you pick the date--and successfully read the entire Bible. The text is divided into easy to read sections. I've read through this book several times. I use THE DAILY BIBLE almost every other year for my Bible reading program. I know first hand how it can work and how it regularly impacts my spiritual life. I highly recommend this book.
The best one-year Bible that I know of. October 27, 2005 Bible Student (Tulsa, OK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My wife and I have read this book through several times. It is refreshing to read the Bible in chronological order with Mr. Smith's excellent comments and historical notes. If you like the NIV, then this is the perfect one-year Bible for you. The hardcover edition costs a little more, but lasts better as well. It would also be good for reading to your children daily. When it first came out, we bought copies for all our family members for Christmas presents.
